This off-season for the Washington Nationals will be remembered for years to approach since it was quite the momentous period. The permit wasn’t even sure if they would be moving to Washington D.C. because the permit hadn’t come to terms with the city about a new stadium. In addition to that, the Baltimore Orioles owner was hostility the league decision to move the team to D.C. He cited that the Nationals would cut into the Orioles fan base, cause them to lose money. In an 11th hour deal with the city, the league and D.C. got what they wanted. It was then that the Expos would become the Nationals.

The Washington Nationals team also had some player group. The Washington Nationals picked up third baseman Vinny Castilla, pitcher Esteban Loaiza, and shortstop Christian Guzman who couldn’t hit water if he fell off of a boat for the Twins the year before. They also traded INF Maicer Izturis and Of Juan Rivera to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for Jose Guillen. With the huge pick ups of Castilla and Guillen, center fielder Brad Wilkerson, first baseman Nick Johnson, and second baseman Jose Vidro will have some bats in the approximately to help put some runs on the board.

The Washington staff is lead by their ace, right hander Livan Hernandez. Hernandez had a 15-10 record in 2004 and posted a 3.20 earned jog average. He amazed fans and players alike with his nine complete games. The nine games were more then every team in all the bigs except for the Oakland Athletics.

Since their terrible debut in the 1969 season, with a 52-110 record, the Washington Nationals, previously the Montreal Expos haven’t seen much permit success. The Washington Nationals team has yet to win a divisional crown in 35 seasons and the closest they came to one was in the 1994 strike abridged season when they lead the division with an uncharacteristic 74-40 record. The hit then came down and the season ended so the Washington Nationals couldn’t claim the crown that they almost earned.

One of the few brilliant spots in this franchise’s history came in 1988 when hurler Pascual Perez threw a no-hitter next to the Phillies at Veterans Stadium. Two seasons ago, the Washington Nationals played their home games in two different countries and neither one of them was the United States. They played home games at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada and at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Despite having to play in three dissimilar countries that year the team managed to hang in the wild card race for a majority of the season. The Washington Nationals team ended up finishing with an 83-79 record which earned them a 4 th place finish in the NL East behind Atlanta, Florida, and Philadelphia. Last year the Washington Nationals team finished 67-95 and in the off-season the team uprooted themselves from the black hole they called Montreal and moved to the US capital.

The Washington Nationals are very happy to be out of Olympic Stadium and into amazing that is better. RFK stadium isn’t the epitome of a baseball stadium, but the fans are excited to see baseball in the nation’s capitol one time again and will show up by the bus load to support the Washington Nationals.

Nationals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

When the Washington Nationals called up left-hander Ross Detwiler for his first career big-league start in May, it was because they needed a spot starter after a doubleheader. Detwiler, the team's first-round pick in 2007, was still a work in progress, and the call-up was never expected to be a long one until Detwiler showed enough promise to cement himself in the rotation.

Now, it's possible the 23-year-old needs the trip back to the minors that the Nationals had planned for him all along.

Detwiler gave up five runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings on Friday night, posting the shortest outing of his big-league career in a 9-8 loss to the Atlanta Braves. That comes on the heels of a five-run, nine-hit outing in five innings against the Baltimore Orioles last Friday.

Conrad's 3-run pinch homer gives Braves 9-8 win (AP)

Atlanta Braves' Matt Diaz(notes) drives in a run with a single against the Washington Nationals during the second inning of a baseball game, Friday, July 3, 2009, in Washington.

Brooks Conrad made quite a first impression, keeping the Atlanta Braves' winning streak and pursuit of the NL East lead in tact. Conrad hit a pinch-hit, go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning and the Braves beat the Washington Nationals 9-8 on Friday night for their season-high fifth straight victory.

Power Rankings: Angels are ascending (Yahoo! Sports) The Dodgers and Red Sox continue to occupy the top two spots, but the other L.A. team is making a push.
